One of the images in the header of my Web site shows me sitting on some steps in the old town of Bolzano del Grappa in the north of Italy.

Bassano del Grappa is a beautiful medieval town located in the province of Vicenza in the Veneto region in northern Italy northwest of Venice.

Located on the River Brenta and in an area known as the Riviera del Brenta, Bassano del Grappa is also named after the nearby Grappa mountain:
Monte Grappa
Bassano was first colonized by the Romans around the 2nd century – the name Bassano comes from the Roman family Bassianus who began an agricultural estate here.
One of the central features of the town is the Medieval covered wooden pontoon bridge designed by the architect Andrea Palladio in 1569.

The bridge has been destroyed many times in many wars but has been completely rebuilt by the Alpine soldiers or:
Alpini
and hence the bridge is also named after these Alpine soliders:
Ponte degli Alpini
Bassano Del Grappa is also renowned for inventing the spirit Grappa a traditional Italain after-dinner drink made from pomace (the otherwise discarded seeds, stalks, and stems of grapes). The grappa shop of Nardini Distillery is located on the Ponte degli Alpini.
